About the SOuth of HIghland District
The SOHI District is in the heart of Milwaukee. It’s unique heritage and creative spirit join hands to deliver a vibrant urban destination. Located on North 27th Street between Highland Boulevard to the North and St. Paul Street to the South, it’s convenient located provides a mainstay for local businesses and area residents. Intersected by Wisconsin Avenue and it close proximity to Interstate I-94, it affords access to many neighboring communities. SOHI’s historic structures combine with the areas new redevelopment projects to offer a unique opportunity to explore and experience a new diverse community.
The SOHI District is one of six Milwaukee commercial districts to be awarded Main Street Milwaukee designation. Main Street Milwaukee is a collaborative effort between the City of Milwaukee Department of City Development and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). The program uses $350,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds and matches it with private resources contributed by partners. The program is a comprehensive, city-wide approach to neighborhood economic development that utilizes a proven method to increase investment in urban neighborhoods, create new businesses, create jobs, and create wealth in urban communities.
